A series of black and white photos of Chicago Dance Crash in concert in 2016. Sony A7II, 70-300mm, email@example.com ISO6400. Variable zoom.
This was my first opportunity to photograph dance in performance. Balancing the quick movement and low light was challenging. I pushed my Sony A7II camera's ability to track focus and find faces.
I used black & white to emphasize the shape of the dancer's bodies and pull them out of the already dark background as if emerging from the darkness.
ISO 6400 is usually higher than I like to use as I'm very sensitive to the grain. Dfine 2 in the Nik Collection helped mediate the grain and black & white, for me, tends to embrace the remaining grain.
